Health and Safety Inspections
RA’s will complete Health and Safety inspections once per semester. Health and Safety inspections are scheduled by the main office and all inspections must be completed within the posted week. Inspection dates are scheduled in the printed student planners, on the monthly activity calendar (the month of the inspection) and the Residence Life staff calendar.
RA’s must post notice flyers 48+ hours in advance of inspections. RA’s must have an RA partner for entering any rooms where the student is not present and are encouraged to have a partner at all times. Resident Assistant Directors (RADs) are responsible for appropriately pairing student staff to ensure thorough and accurate inspections. RADs are encouraged to assist with 1-2 room inspections for any pairings where both RA’s are new staff who have not completed Health and Safety inspections or where additional assistance could be necessary.
If a room passes inspection, the RA will leave a green “pass” slip in a visible location. If a room fails inspection, the RA will leave a red “fail” slip in a visible location. If a room fails, the RA is responsible for following up in 24 hours to verify the violation has been corrected. All Health & Safety paperwork will be submitted to the Resident Assistant Director upon completion, including blank/leftover papers.
The Resident Assistant Director will verify that all Health & Safety inspection forms are accounted for (one per apartment/suite/traditional room) and file them appropriately in the marked binder in the Residence Life Office. RADs will verify that any policy violations have been submitted as incident reports. RADs will note rooms which did not pass inspections (even after 2nd attempt) and attempt to resolve the issue (pass the room) before submitting final paperwork to professional staff.
